NFL Turns to Streaming for Global Growth

November 30, 2015 by Chuck Baker

“I think it is not just about how you’re going to be experiencing sports in the future but also TV in general.” – Adam Cahan, Yahoo senior vice president of video, design and emerging offerings.

Both cable and satellite providers are losing subscribers faster than they’re gaining them for the first time ever. While this has not affected their own viewership, the NFL is looking to grow a global fanbase for the sport, and the answer to that issue is the same: presenting content online, via streaming and on-demand.  So, as an experimental step toward that future, NFL partnered with Yahoo to live stream a game for the first time ever, the recent matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Buffalo Bills at London’s Wembley Stadium.
