NAB 2017: Interview with Brian Sheil of Entertainment Services LA
In perhaps our most fun and irreverent interview from the NAB 2017 show floor on #NDICentral Live, Brian Sheil of Entertainment Services LA recounts a long, successful, and sometimes outrageous (no spoilers - watch the interview!), production history with the NewTek TriCaster. The irreverence comes naturally - in addition to his busy production career, Brian also enjoys success at standup comedy. The sheer range of productions that he has worked on in more than 20 years in the business is astonishing, from reality, game shows and network scripted series on MTV and others to red carpet celebrity events (yes, the Oscars!) to concerts with global stars of the music world. His experience even includes side trips into sports, such as a stint with HRTV, a streaming channel for horse racing.
Brian depends on TriCaster as the production and streaming workhorse for all these varied projects and looks to continue that for the foreseeable future. When asked how many TriCasters he has, he replied, “I have two working [on projects] as we speak. I have four total, and then the TriCaster TC1, which I’m going to buy right after this. So I will have five by the end of today.”
Brian relates that he saw TriCaster as the solution when the expansion of ways to reach the audience, the crunch of falling budgets and the need to keep top quality production values collided. TriCaster could maintain high production values and make broadcast-quality content at the new budget levels required to serve the hundreds of cable channels and virtually infinite streaming options.
NewTek’s NDI® technology takes that even further by reducing costs and simplifying the cabling of connections within a video suite, and yet making those connections into two-way communications. The latter, especially, multiplies the creative possibilities between the hundreds of supporting products. Brian says, “I always thought the TriCaster was just exponentially changing the world of production, which it did. Now, with NDI, my head has exploded, officially.”
