2-Minute Tutorial: Setting up Hardware Outputs in TriCaster Advanced Edition
May 16, 2017 by Chuck Baker
In a previous tutorial we learned How to Set up and Use the Hardware Inputs in TriCaster Advanced Edition. There are also powerful options available for set up and use of the hardware outputs.
Navigate to Hardware Configuration Output Tab
After a quick review of the Hardware Configuration panel’s Input tab, which provides a variety of controls for TriCaster’s IN physical connections, our demonstrator moves on to the Output tab. Here we see that there are four physical outputs, labeled simply OUT 1 through OUT 4. Three of these are SDI and one is HDMI. Instructor Don Ballance also draws our attention to the fact that all four of these OUTs also appear on the network as NDI video streams.
Configuring Hardware Output Video Options
The operator has several choices available for what each of the these OUTs delivers. For example, the finished Program Output with all downstream keys can be published, or the operator can choose Program Clean output, without the downstream keys. This is a good choice to record for later content repurposing, or to send on to another production system to apply other branding, perhaps for another region or language.
Configuring Hardware Output Audio Options
As you can see from the video choices for the OUTs, TriCaster is designed to make it easy to multipurpose a live production. Another example of this is the available selections for the audio to accompany the video output. In the tutorial, our instructor chooses Aux 1 to accompany Program Clean on Output 2. A live production could have two commentary teams in two different languages, and handle output of both on two of the outputs, as demonstrated here.
Configuring Hardware Output Display 1 and Display 2
In addition to output for broadcast, the TriCaster has the ability to send video-only to two additional displays, for confidence monitors or other production monitoring needs. One Display output is VGA, and one is HDMI. These have to be toggled on in order to be active. The operator can select OUT 1 through OUT 4, or any of the Inputs, Media Players or Biuffers to put on Display 1 or Display 2, and then click the toggle box to turn that Display on.
